Grandma Katie 1884-1942

The Universal fact is that

We Are Our Ancestors ...

Allow me to introduce you to Katie, the revered matriarch of our tribe and the beloved mother of my Great Auntie Anna. While I didn’t have the privilege of meeting Grandma Katie in person, her legacy lives on in the cherished memories and teachings she passed down through generations.

In the 1970s, Grandma Katie’s home, a cherished haven, became the cornerstone of my upbringing. This historic house located in Randolph County, MO, bequeathed to Auntie Anna after Grandma Katie’s passing in 1942, served as my sanctuary—a place where I eagerly absorbed invaluable life skills. These teachings have not only shaped my life but have also left an indelible mark on the entire clan, influencing us to this very day.

Within those hallowed walls, I delved into the intricate art of preserving food through home canning, cultivating and nurturing the generous offerings of our garden, and mastering the delicate finesse of sewing. Auntie’s wisdom was nothing short of transformative, and her teachings continue to reverberate through our lives.

Auntie understood the profound significance of nature’s blessings. She would spend her days basking in the warm embrace of the sun, imparting to us the wisdom of soaking in the nourishing rays from dawn till dusk. It is with deep gratitude and reverence that we carry forward these traditions and teachings, preserving the essence of our heritage for generations to come.

These very skills, I learned, were an heirloom passed down through generations, a legacy from my great-grandmother, a testament to our Amerindian lineage. It’s in our DNA to inherit and perpetuate the wisdom of our Amerindian Ancestors and the rich tapestry of their culture.
